Picture Palace is a lamp you play with, a toy that lights a room, a cinema that fits on a nightstand, and a dynamic collectible that keeps changing. Handmade in Mumbai, the first-of-its-kind lamp is built on the 19th-century Ombro cinema optics that gave early film its very first flicker. Just slide a transparent film into the frame and switch on the soft LED glow to watch twelve hand-selected illustrations pull apart into motion through pure physics. Left alone, it rests as a quiet, glowing artwork; picked up, it becomes an intimate tabletop spectacle. Given as a gift, it surprises as a piece of interactive history unlike anything else in the world.
This collection draws from the hand-painted signage of Indian bazaars, roads, and storefronts of the 1970s and 90s — the bold, idiosyncratic typography that announced hotels, beauty parlours, barber shops, and cold drinks. Phrases swing from deadpan comedy to accidental street philosophy. The lettering is exuberant, unselfconscious, and completely unrepeatable. Twelve slides, each one a small act of cultural memory made kinetic.

To begin, connect the LED connector cable to the power adaptor. Take the viewer in your hands, select one of twelve artworks and holding it by its transparent tail - gently slide it into the console. This is an invitation to mindfulness: as you move the card with intention, a hidden mechanism transforms the still image into a vivid, hand-made optical illusion. The slower you move, the deeper the magic.
Artisanal Care
Our slides are crafted from double-coated acetate film for absolute clarity. To preserve their delicate beauty, please keep them away from direct sunlight and moisture. If you notice air bubbles, a simple, gentle roll of the slide will restore its surface. You can cut the tail end of the slides according to your desired length.
